 Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Play Pause
Stop and Rewind

Now, the thing that I'd like you to remember about RDS is that it is a syndrome. It is not just lung disease. It's a whole syndrome, and consists primarily of, well the respiratory distress is the thing that we focus on, because that is the first thing that we have to deal with when the baby is first with us, and you know that the qualities are grunting, flaring, intercostal retraction, hypotemia and hypercarbia, and we will talk a little bit more about this in a few minutes. Additionally, though the babies have oliguria, they have hypothermia, and they have hypoglycemia. And I want my obstetric colleagues to remember this, because I want you to give us the babies before they are ready to be circumcised, you know, when you cut the cord. We need to get the baby before the one minute Apgar, because they get real cold real fast. So, I know you're going to remember that, right.
